Dreams to Reality

Exploring radical new technology

Author Marti Waltheim

Contemporary science fiction and fantasy. The discovery of non-metallic electrical conductors could change the world and spell the end of internal combustion engines.

A fantasy win in the Euro Millions Lottery compels Marti Waltheim to follow his dreams. THE WALTHEIM TRUST is established and invests in the RENEWABLE ENERY RESEARCH INSTITUTE. Marti and Prof Ben Christie share a dream of developing non-metallic electrical conductors made from synthetic polymers impregnated with electrically active isotopes. It takes several years, but when the breakthrough comes, the Trust is set to make billions. They must refine the technology and get partners to produce it. The first, TC Corp in the USA is skeptical, but are convinced after a demonstration.

The stage is set. Many others will follow until the tech is in demand across the world. Lighter, cheaper and more efficient than conventional batteries and solar panels, this is just the beginning as new electric motors are developed. EV’s can now be produced cheaper than conventional vehicles. Marti and the team set their sights on converting the entire NYC Yellow Cab fleet to EV. There is an opportunity in India and elsewhere to convert millions of motor cycles and Tuk-Tuks to EV. They also embark on ambitious waste plastic recycling projects and other forms of renewable energy. As the tech expands the Trust coffers are loaded with billions of dollars which they must spend, or the Internal Revenue Services will take their bite. An urban renewal project is set in motion in a run-down suburb of Birmingham. Many other projects follow. Is this just fantasy? It could be much more. For every mechanical problem, there is an engineering solution. All that is required is the means and the motivation to find it.
